Photoshop’s Red Eye tool offers a quick and simple way to remove the red eye flaw from photographs. The ‘red eye’ problem happens when the camera’s flash causes light to bounce off the retina. This tool is relatively new to Photoshop.

[edit] Red Eye Options

The Pupil Size setting helps Photoshop to find the red eye in the selection. This figure, measured in percentage, should represent a rough guess as to how much of the selection is taken up by the pupil.

Since the red eye tool essentially darkens the pupil to fix the problem, Darken Amount allows you to experiment and find the optimal amount of darkness for the most realistic effect.

[edit] Usage

The Red Eye Tool can be found in the submenu under the Healing Brush Tool. Alternatively, press Shift+J to alternate amongst the tools in this submenu until you’ve selected the Red Eye Tool.

Once the tool is selected, click and drag the mouse across the approximate area of the eye. When you release, Photoshop attempts to fix the problem. Repeat this on the other eye (or on all affected eyes, if it’s a group photograph).
