PSDTuts Fan Art Page

I think that a Fan Art page for PSDTuts Wiki would be a great idea to help keep it active here and it would also be a lot of fun. I have not worked on any yet for your site, but if this idea was to be accepted I can sure start. :P --Brandon05 8:45PM, 06 August 2008 (EST)

-- I say go for it. Make sure to link to it from the Projects page too. -- Easton 06:22, 7 Aug 2008 (MDT)

Sidebar

To whom it may concern... I would recommend editing the sidebar a bit, to have a new box that includes links to the categories and/or pages that people would want to check out the most. Examples such as the FAQ, maybe categories for pages that detail different parts of the program, etc. Just making it a little more customized and user friendly! --Landlordos7 contrb talk 12:53, 30 July 2008 (PDT)

-- Great idea. I'll make it happen. -- Easton 00:34, 2 Aug 2008 (MDT)

Can We Create Other Pages...Or is that against the rules?

Hey admin(s),

As far as the community is concerned(and the contest)are we/should we only edit the pages that are listed, or can we create new ones? I was thinking of some other great pages, even whole sections that could be added. Just curious.

  • I am not an admin, but Golden Rule #1 is that if you think it can help the wiki, add it! :) --Landlordos7 contrb talk 15:20, 30 July 2008 (PDT)
  • I'm an admin. Do it. No need to ask permission. As long as it's helpful, it's welcome here. :) -- Easton 16:27, 30 July 2008 (MDT)
  • Cool. Thanks guys.

Main Page Proposal

Easton, and whoever else, I would like to propose the following page to be used on the Main Page. The content box would disappear I am pretty sure... THoughts? --Landlordos7 contrb talk 15:57, 30 July 2008 (PDT)

-- Not sure exactly what you mean. I did add that fancy box at top, but stripped out some links for now to help people focus on the contest. Let me know what else I can do as a sysop. -- Easton 00:32, 2 Aug 2008 (MDT)

Articles We Can't Get To...

Ok, I just want to start off by saying that I'm new to editing a wiki, so maybe this is how it's done. But, There are only a few articles posted under the "you can edit". Are the other articles "off limits"? Or have you just not set up navigation yet? I know this is similar to my last question, but when I went to create a keyboard shortcuts page, I found one already existed, so I started editing that. Hopefully this is alright, and I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. Like I said, I'm new to this whole wiki thing, and maybe I should just follow the Golden Rules, and worry about these things later. :)

  • Hey, welcome to the wiki. :) Don't worry about stepping on people's toes, the beautiful thing about wikis is that everyone can contribute, and that things are easily revertible. As for your question, the reason that only a few pages are listed is because the rest haven't been created yet! If you want to start creating, just type in the name of the page you want to create in the url bar (so this one says Talk:Main Page as the title, if you wanted to start a "Why Photoshop is Awesome" page, you would type in the url http://wiki.psdtuts.com/w/Why_Photoshop_Is_Awesome, make sense?) Otherwise, if you search for a page but don't see any results, there is an option at the top that says, "There is no page entitled *blank*. You can Create this page." Hope that helps! --Landlordos7 contrb talk
  • Ok, that's where I got a little confused. When I started searching for some things, I came up with some results, but never clicked on them. I figured they were already created. I'll get to work. :D I'm liking this wiki-world.

Licensing

What license are contributions here licensed under? Or is this one of those "make lots of content for us to profit off" things ...? Victoriacakes 20:55, 1 August 2008 (PDT)

-- Good question, Victoriacakes. As of right now, we're operating under the same principles as Wikipedia - that is, everything in this wiki is offered according the GNU Free Documentation License. As far as I know, there is absolutely no intention on the part of PSDTUTS.com to make money directly off of this wiki (only indirectly as people click through to the rest of the site and view or click on ads, sign up for monthly memberships, etc.) PSDTUTS wants every wiki user to benefit as well, so we actively encourage users to flesh out their own user "about" pages with any information/links that might foster mutually profitable and beneficial relationships among members of this community. The main goal here is just to offer a space where the PSDTUTS user base can flex its muscles and enjoy putting together the best Photoshop wiki on the Web. Hope that helps. -- Easton 00:30, 2 Aug 2008 (MDT)

-- To along with what Easton said, this isn't like spec work where a company expects to get logo designs, for example, and they offer a contest of like $100 and expect to then get a logo on the cheap. This is a community that is passionate about Photoshop, and PSDTUTS is as well, and is simply providing the server space for it.

-- We've got an official license now. -- Easton

Competition

I posted 7 minutes too late to be counted in the competition. Is that still counted? :)

-- Um ... sorry, no. But you are still super welcome here. :) -- Easton 06:25, 7 Aug 2008 (MDT)

Are the winners of the competition going to be announced on the wiki?

-- At the main PSDTUTS site, hopefully in the next 24 hours. -- Easton 00:23, 8 Aug 2008 (MDT)

IMPORTANT SECURITY

Admins, you should probably edit some permission a bit on this wiki, like locking some pages. Here are just some of the things I've seen that need to be fixed:

  • I could move this talk page (and other important pages)
  • There is no Project:Copyrights page which is linked to be all edit pages
  • I could edit the Privacy Policy and Disclaimers!

This may not seem too bad now, but as this wiki becomes more popular, some people may not be so nice!

-- Gotcha. Working on it. Easton 06:26, 7 Aug 2008 (MDT)

Tutorials

Question: When I went to the Photoshop Tutorials page and clicked on "Selection," there was a big box with a list of selection topics. Does this mean that these are tutorials people/PSDTUTS want? We're currently working on selection tools in class and I would love to expand the knowledge here. Should I just start creating new pages and dropping some knowledge? What is the exact purpose of these light yellow boxes? Thanks!

Catertot

Answer: Good question Catertot! First of all, we'd love for you to contribute all you can. Every bit helps. That list in the box is just a chunk of notes I pasted in when creating that Selection page, so it's kind of messy. Feel free to create off-shoot pages and link to them from that page. We'd love to have a more in-depth discussion there on what selection means and how to select various things etc. So yes, just go ahead and make any and all edits you want. What do you mean by the light yellow boxes? Easton, 15 Sep 2008
